contemporary kitchen project

2nd December 2020

A Contemporary design, with clean lines and a neutral colour palette. The space was to be open and airy, maximising natural light and using material finishes in white, stainless steel, and wood to create a harmonious blend of modern aesthetics and functionality.

BEHIND THE DESIGN | Contemporary Kitchen Project

Designing the perfect Kitchen entails loads of design decisions, not to mention styling and organising ones. I understand that making the right choices can be overwhelming, there’re are amply choices so getting it right the first time can give you decision paralysis. And the exact reason why I dedicate so much time to the design concept and development phases of a project. Countless hours of gathering imagery researching every inch of detail ensuring we design the perfect kitchen for you and your family.

During this project, my clients had already chosen a few initial pieces, which we discussed during the Design Concept phase, they had started the initial ideas of tackling the project alone and once feeling overwhelmed what the amount of decisions they decided to get professional help.

it's all in the details....

I thought it would be helpful to discuss the particulars relating to this Contemporary kitchen redesign renovation;

The brief called for a light, Contemporary/Minimalist design, which we achieved with the installation of sleek white cabinets and joinery finished in a satin 30 percent poly finish. to keep with the main design scope they selected a sleek and simple contemporary handle design opting for Matte Black Slimline pull handles, offering functionality while sticking to the minimalist aesthetic, finished with a simple matte finish white subway tile for the backsplash, laid in a traditional offset pattern. Keeping in with the contemporary feel, installing a Smeg stainless steel 900 wide freestanding oven with integrated gas cooktop, french door fridge as well as a double-bowl under-mount stainless sink, complimented by a sleek rounded Euro pull-out kitchen mixer tap finishing off the space perfectly.

The original kitchens footprint expanded, with the kitchens back wall being pushed out allowing for an open plan design. I suggested go big and incorporate a large scale island bench! Great for entertaining, while providing ample storage with enough countertop to allow for a large breakfast bench on one side with hidden storage beneath, they loved the idea selecting a waterfall edge design in a simple yet stunning Michelangelo Quartz material finish, it’s subtle veining perfect for a minimalist contemporary design.

Since the homes design was now redesigned to be open plan with various walls being removed or relocated the flooring and wall finishes needed to be replaced. Keeping the overall scheme light and bright neutral with a subtle grey tone, the wall selection they applied was a satin finish Dulux Vanilla Quake Half, while the trims were finished in a semi gloss Dulux Vivid White. To add some warmth to space they chose a timber loose lay vinyl flooring by Kardean Flooring in Mountain Spotted Gum. This product features a large repeat pattern, allowing for a blended layout – avoiding noticeable patterns in a spacious area was essential! The flooring was installed directionally over the existing tiles after the levelling process was completed, which saved money on demolition and disposal fees.

The end result is truly stunning, timeless and I believe fits the brief perfectly!

I’m sure they’ll enjoy many years crafting and sharing delicious meals with family and friends.
